About Pucci
Artist, Werner Lewin ("Pucci") has been painting in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1970. Werner's artistic name Pucci, (pronounced Poo-Chee), came about as an early childhood nickname.
Believe it or not, Werner was the first San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf area street artist. Werner began by selling his artwork to tourists seeking souvenirs for friends and family back home.
As a teenager, Werner painted and sold 8"x 5" framed paintings depicting a diverse array of popular subjects, such as fishing boats, cypress trees, and San Francisco landmarks. Werner sold his art while sitting on a blanket on the sidewalk (Beach St.) across the street from Ghirardelli Square before it became a necessity to have a street vendor’s license.
Always fond of sports, in 1976, Werner turned his attention to drawing large museum-mounted & framed sports-oriented pencil renderings which he was successful in showing and selling. One such occasion occurred when Werner was invited to display 12 of his sports drawings at the American Express Bay Area Headquarters.
In 1977, Werner temporarily ceased his painting to be able to focus on attending law school, preparing for and passing the Bar, and practicing law. Werner practiced law for 6 years but did not care for it. In 1986, dissatisfied with the practice of law, Werner took the opportunity to grasp the perceived need of busy Bay Area law offices to engage in on-call access to secure pre-screened, reliable, highly skilled, and reasonably-priced attorneys on both a full and part-time basis. The company that Werner founded was well-received and became the best service of its kind operating in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Werner successfully ran his attorney staffing service for 34 years. In 2019, the opportunity arose for Werner to resume his lifetime passion for art and he could not be happier that he did so
